Custom Quilts and Pillowcases Made with Care

Operation Kid Comfort provides quilts and pillow cases to military children of deployed active-duty service members. Volunteers lovingly create hand-crafted, custom photo-transfer quilts and pillow cases to help children cope with the struggles that come with separation from a deployed parent.

Program Overview

How it works

Children 0-6 years old receive quilts.
Each quilt includes up to nine (9) photos depicting favorite memories of/with the deploying parent.
Children 7+ years old receive pillowcases.
Each pillow case includes up to five (5) photos depicting favorite memories of/with the deploying parent.
There is a limit of one quilt/pillowcase per child.
Volunteer quilters provide the materials and talent necessary to create these keepsakes; as such, we cannot accept requests for customization (color, pattern, size, etc).
Families don’t have to wait to submit a request until the service member is actively deployed; you can submit a request once orders for deployment have been issued.

Eligibility

Requests must be submitted by an active duty, guard, or reserve service member with current orders to deploy, or by one of their immediate family members.
This program is open to all service members, regardless of rank or service branch.
If your military family does not meet the deployment criteria, but is otherwise subject to separation from your service member for six (6) consecutive months or more, please contact us here to inquire about eligibility.
Not stationed at Fort Cavazos? No problem! We can ship your special mementos anywhere in the United States.

What you will need when applying

Choose the appropriate number of photos to submit for your child’s quilt or pillow case (up to nine (9) photos per quilt, or five (5) photos for pillow cases). These photos must depict the deploying service member. We suggest choosing photos that capture memories your child can relate to; family activities, the service member on duty or off, pictures of the two of them together, etc.
Please make sure the photos you submit are high-quality enough that they will print clear and sharp at approximately 8″ x 10″.

ASYMCA | Operation Kid Comfort Release:*

The Armed Services YMCA is actively pursuing corporate, business and individual support for Operation Kid Comfort (OKC) and the many other programs we offer. To this end, and with your permission, we may display, share, or publish the following types of photographs: finished OKC projects; photographs taken by us, or submitted by you, of your child/family with finished OKC projects; and photographs taken at OKC workshops and events for these purposes. This means that the photos you submit will not be directly used by the ASYMCA in our marketing materials, but may be indirectly displayed through photos of finished products in our marketing materials, website, and/or social media. Please read our privacy statement and approve or disapprove the use of your image, the image of your child(ren), and/or of your spouse below. Please ensure the photos are of sufficient resolution for printing.
